Shearling coat is made of sheepskin pelts (and not the shorn wool, as many people believe) carefully sheared to acquire the same feel and depth throughout. It has a suede surface on one side and a clipped fur surface on the other. Usually the suede side is worn outward. The combination of soft wool and sueded leather makes shearling ideal for creating garments. Shearling makes fabulous coats that are amazingly warm, which makes them ideal for extremely cold climate, but also self-regulating, so can be used for much of the year in temperate climates.
